New YouTube video: OMB vs. Cornbread

Aww, it's my first YouTube video! Isn't it cute? This is from The Vowel Movement's 2007 Beatbox Battle at Ashkenaz in January. As you can see, I had no problem graciously losing to the beatbox behemoth that is Cornbread. If it doesn't load, click here to watch.

LipBiz product update

LipBiz, the professional lip lubricant for Vocal Percussionists and Beatboxers, is currently out of production due to the fact that a former supplier of one of the main ingredients went out of business. Faced with reformulating it all over again, and I am planning to relaunch LipBiz later this year (perhaps even under another name). I will let you know when this product is available once again, probably around November of 2007. Please accept my humble apologies if your beats feel a little dry or sticky until then!

Still On Amazon

Sam Rogers, One Mouth BandA friend recently pointed out that my first CD is still available on Amazon.com. It's not available anywhere else because I sold out of it a while back. Huh, how 'bout that now? If you have an account and the CD, why not write me a nice little recommendation if you have the chance? Thanks!

The Irrationals in studio and ensuing reflections

I've had the great pleasure of singing with The Irrationals for a few years now. Yesterday we finally made it to a real recording studio to lay down a few tracks for our upcoming CD, the second for the group. We started "Done Waiting", the title track written and led by yours truly. I for one am happy to be done waiting for this project to begin! Links to mp3s of our mixes will be available here in the future. After spending a lot of time at the old Russian Hill Recording in San Francisco as a kid where my Stepmom worked and my Dad was often doing sessions, then hanging out at The Plant in Sausalito when my Dad recorded there, recording there myself a few times, practically living in the studio for the two years I went to Phil Mattson's music school in Iowa, too many late nights spent on recording/audio production projects in Waldorf Studio at Sonoma State University, being the one-man-office for Gary Remal Malkin's professional home studio and commercial music production business, and the dozen or so projects I've been a part of at other recording studios, it felt very much like home when I walked into Joe Weed's Highland Studios yesterday. It's funny to me that after being so bored out of my skull in studios before, I actually enjoy them now. Perhaps I wasn't old enough to appreciate it then, or maybe shutting me into a drum booth with crayons and a coloring book for mixdown when I was six had about the same effect as force-feeding me vegetables: I hated them for a while but slowly grow to enjoy them!
